Emily Harnden, MD - Billings Clinic Bozeman Orthopedic Surgeon
Emily Harnden, MD is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon with fellowship training in Sports Medicine. She specializes in arthroscopic and minimally invasive treatment of injuries to the shoulder, knee, and ankle. This includes treatment of cartilage disorders, meniscus tears, labral injuries, and ligament and tendon injuries such as ACL and rotator cuff tears. She also specializes in joint preservation, including surgical and non-surgical therapies such as cartilage restoration, realignment osteotomies, and biologic cellular therapies such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma). She has a particular interest in treating female athletes, using a multidisciplinary approach to address their unique injuries and goals to optimize their recovery.
She earned her BA at Stanford University, her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Southern California, and completed her Orthopedic Surgery residency training at the University of Washington in Seattle. She followed that training with two subspecialty fellowships: the first in Sports Medicine at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute in Taos, NM and the second in Foot and Ankle surgery at the Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, PA. She is also a physician for the US Ski Team.
Dr. Harnden uses a shared-decision making model when caring for her patients. She empowers her patients to take an active role in their treatment, assuring they have the information to make informed choices about their care. She also works closely with physical therapists, trainers, and other physicians to ensure her patients achieve their best possible outcome. She strives to create individual treatment plans to help patients meet their specific goal, whether that be to walk their dog pain-free or to return to professional or elite-level sports.
